About the Band

The Marana Big PHAT Band is a 20-plus piece ensemble out of Marana and Tucson. We play the shimmer of disco, the swagger of funk, the sophistication of jazz and the hooks of pop and classic rock — all with a full horn section behind them. Since forming in 2022 we've built a following on dynamic arrangements, serious musicianship and a genuine appetite for playing live.

More than a band, we're a community ensemble — players who show up on Tuesday nights because they love this music and want to keep the big band tradition working. For our 2026–2027 season we’ve opened the book wider — the biggest hits of the sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond, reimagined with brassy flair and rhythmic fire: Chicago, Steely Dan, Queen, Kansas, Styx, Journey, ABBA, Elton John, the Doobie Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Adele and more.

Whether we're igniting nostalgia or introducing the big band sound to someone hearing it for the first time, we bring a full-stage spectacle to concert venues, festivals and community events across Southern Arizona.

Join the Band

We rehearse Tuesday evenings in northwest Tucson and we're always glad to hear from musicians who read well and want to play. You don't need to be a professional.

Open chairs, substitute auditions and how the process works all live on our auditions page — we keep the chair list current, so if a part says open, it's open.

Get in Tune

Want to book the band, ask about joining, or just say hello? Drop us a line — we hear from fans, venues and fellow jazz lovers, and we answer all of it.
